Chuckanut Sandstone

Posted by PicasaCinnabar Sandstone Coasters  Down at the beach less than a mile away there is the most beautiful pitted and carved sandstone I've ever seen.  It's naturally formed in this area and has found its way into buildings and steps, pillars, etc.

Coot & Crow

Here's an odd couple, Coot & Crow. I took this shot out at Lake Padden one day in February. They like to forage on the lawn next to the lake.

Fresh Water Reeds

Here are broken reeds from winter rain and snow.  The reeds--Great Bulrush (Scirpus validus) Jumbo Seed Packet - 1000 Seeds--are lying around the edge of the Lake Padden. They wash in and out with the water movement and form lovely patterns.  Natural designs to photograph--sort of Andy Goldsworthy material.Andy Goldsworthy's Rivers & Tides

The Digital Photography Book
More reeds lined up along the shore of Lake Padden in Bellingham.  I take my camera everywhere I go.  Originally I shot with Kodak Brownie Box.  Later it was an SLR Minolta--very nice camera, but I wore it out.  Digital is great because you can take so many shots without worrying about film developing cost

Madrona Knothole

This photo I took out at Woodstock Farms, which is just down Chuckanut Drive about 3 miles. It's a gorgious place overlooking the water. I went down there a few weeks back--very cold, windy, but sunny--to naturalize with the Komo Kulshan Chapter, Washington's Native Plant Society. We looked close-up at many mosses and lichens. It was a lovely, though chilly, day.
